Movember

This year, my husband Luke, is taking part in Movember. The aim of Movember is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.

Luke isn't very tech savvy so I have set up a Mo Space page where you can follow his progress for the month. I'll keep it updated with photos too. He is aiming to grow one like Bendeguz on Beauty & The Geek - although I think he's going to need a year, not a month, to grow one like this! lol If you would like to donate and support Luke on his quest, follow this link and you can donate online.

And here he is at the start of the month.
He is never clean shaven as he has really sensitive skin. This is as short as it gets. I have to admit, as a wife, I am not looking forward to this at all! lol I hate hairy faces - enough said!

Get Picky Inspiration

It's been a while since I played along at Get Picky. When I saw this months inspiration challenge I just had to give it a go. So here is my layout: And here is the picture we had to draw inspiration from:

How gorgeous are all those colours together? I have used them as the inspiration for my layout. I've used Crate Paper 'Farmhouse' on this one and added some Thickers and Websters stickers for my title.

There was also some extra criteria - to use fabric on your layout. I have used hessian as the background behind my photo. I have also included a little fabric button.

Friday Faves! :)

A little while ago, my friend Kirsty, on a Friday, would share with us her five favourite things for the week. I'm making an attempt to blog a little more about stuff other than scrapping so thought doing something like this would be a good way to give you a little insight into my life. So here are my first ever 5 Friday Faves:

1. Mobile Playgroup

Every fortnight, on a Wednesday, these lovely ladies travel all the way from Maryborough out to little old Monogorilby in this bus: It is choc full of toys, books and crafty goodies for the kids. We are very lucky to have this service and the kids can't wait to see what goodies the ladies have bought. There is always something different or something 'new' for them to play with. We usually have playgroup at our local hall, but this week we were the only family who were able to go, so the ladies came to our house instead! Talk about service! ;)

2. Jacaranda Trees

We have 3 of these beautiful trees behind our house. Luke's parents planted them here about 30 years ago. I love the pop of colour it gives to the landscape - they stick out like the proverbial!! lol

3. Toilet Training

I am no longer dealing with nappies!! Over the past few weeks we have been toilet training Darcie. She has been an absolute breeze to train. She woke up one day and told me she wanted to wear undies and we haven't looked back! I was still putting her in a nappy at night - mainly for my own sake (not having to wash sheets etc), but every morning she would be dry. :) So this week, we said goodbye to the nappies at night and she hasn't had an accident! (She is sooo going to kill me when she's older, isn't she??!! lol)

4. RDO Mondays
We have a long weekend every second weekend and I love it!! Our little school out here is one of only a couple of schools in Queensland that run on a 9 day fortnight. The kids do an extra 20 minutes of school each day to make up for the time off. Having that extra day on the weekend means we can go to town and do the shopping, dr appointments or dentist etc or my fave, go away for the weekend! :)

5. My iPad 2
We live in the bush and aren't usually up to date with technology but OMG I am so glad I bought myself one of these for my birthday (I knew if I didn't buy it, no-one else would! lol) Every week I am discovering something new that it can do and there's rarely a day that goes by where I am not using it. My fave thing at the moment is all the photography apps. I don't have Photoshop on my computer so I'm loving being able to create different effects on my photos. It's fun!! And even the technologically challenged (ie Luke!) are enjoying using it - not that he would admit it! lol

So there you are - my five faves for this week. What were yours for this week?

Summer's End

I have had a chance to play with some new Fancy Pants!! Love this range called 'Summer's End' that I got from The Little Scrapbook Shop. Love the mix of colours - great for boy and girl layouts! Here is what I created:

I'm loving fiddling with the photography apps on my iPad at the moment. I don't have Photoshop so I'm loving creating different effects. :) I took these photos of Luke and then 'grunged' them up a little. On this layout I've used some masking tape, some hessian (from A Lil Somethin), twine and Thickers.

Some of you may have seen this photo before. It is currently my profile pic on Facebook. This kid is soooo cheeky. This is the face I got whilst trying to take her photo.

I have a new-found love for rub-ons after receiving some in my pack. I have been steering away from them as I never seemed to use them or when I did they wouldn't work properly! I have used them on this layout to create a background for the photo. Here's a close up of the journalling:

And here she is again! (I promise I do scrap my other children! lol):

I had a go at making the flower myself and have used some Jillibean Soup alphas for my title. They were the perfect colour to match the FP range.

And finally, this layout of Michala (see, I did say I scrap my other kids!) The photos were a photo strip from the Photobooth App but I cut them up into individual pics. I have used a flocked transparency as the background for this layout. I never know what to do with them usually. I buy them and they sit in my paper stash for ages, mostly never to be seen again! I kinda knew that spraying the background with mist wasn't going to work but did it anyway. I then dabbed the mist with a tissue to take of the excess. There is still a small hint of colour there.

I've used some more Jillibean Soup alphas, this time the corrugated ones. I've added a flower that I made out of fabric scraps as well.

It certainly makes for something a little different. If you would like to get your hands on this range you can find it at LSBS here.

Thanks so much to all my new 'likers' of my FB page. If you are not yet a 'liker' click on the 'Down On The Farm' badge over on the left. ;)

Stuck?! Again!!

I was mucking around with one of the photography apps on my iPad yesterday and took this gorgeous photo of Michala. I couldn't believe how grown up she looked all of a sudden. She is now 5 and getting very excited about going to big school next year! She keeps asking me how many 'sleeps'! lol I had to print the photo and scrap this layout:
This is my take on the October 15th sketch at Stuck?! Sketches:

I have used some Studio Calico 'Memoir' - love the mix of blues and browns.

I have added a few splashes of red to match Michala's shirt.

I just wanted to say a big thanks too to all of those who have 'liked' Down On The Farm' on Facebook - 70 likers in the first day! Wow! If you haven't liked yet just click on the Down On The Farm badge in the left hand column <---------

A Quick & Easy Christmas Idea

The Countdown to Christmas is still happening over at The Little Scrapbook Shop. This week it was my turn to share an idea. I have made a cute little wine bottle tag that can also be converted to a christmas card.
So much nicer that putting it in a wine bag or handing it over as is. If you would like to find out how to make one of these, head over to the forum here.

And while you are there, check out Nicole's awesome idea to make a Christmas Countdown Album in less that 3 hours!! You can find it here.

Crazy Kids!

Has it really been almost a week since I updated my blog? Where does the time go? We have been busy though. We've had visitors for a few days and had a trip to Toowoomba to do some much needed shopping! :) And I have scrapped a fair bit - just not alot I can share at the moment. ;) But I did manage a 'just because' this morning:

I received a yummy parcel full of Studio Calico from The Little Scrapbook Shop yesterday and just had to jump right in. I have used a SC mask for the background with Mr Hueys of course. *sigh*

I am really enjoying adding different textures to my layouts at the moment. I have used some gauze that I sprayed with Mr Hueys behind my photos. And how this for recycling? The button above I made with my I-top using the material from my old pyjama pants! I loved the pattern on them so couldn't bare to throw them away (even though they had a great whole in the bum! lol). So I made a button with them!

I have also sprayed these white Jillibean Soup corrugated alphas with black Mr Hueys so they matched my layout. :) I will be back later to share some DT stuff from LSBS too.

One More?

I have been having a little internal struggle lately about having another baby. After Darcie, I thought I was done but now I am really starting to like the idea of having one more. Luke is keen too (which helps! lol). But then I start thinking about the negatives. I had really bad morning sickness with all 3 - like not keeping anything down and feeling crappy 24/7 for the first 3-4 months. I even ended up in hospital on a drip with Michala. Then there is having a caesar, the pain, the sleepless nights and all the rest. I'm not sure I'm up to doing that again. But then I think, it's not forever and the pros far outweigh the cons. :) Anyway, I decided to scrap a layout about how I'm feeling:

This is for the current challenge over at Show Us Your Stuff - based on this sketch and using something handmade of course. I have flipped the sketch on its side and mirrored it - if that makes sense:
So here are some close ups. The button I have made myself using some fabric and my I-top. I've used OA '5 & Dime' again - it was still sitting on my desk after the last layout! lol

I've misted the background as well. I had originally journalled around the outside of the layout but I didn't like how it looked. I then cut off the journalling and mounted the entire layout on a similar coloured cardstock.

My journalling is now hidden up in the top left. ;) Thanks so much for stopping by...

Chip Off The Old Block

The other night, when we were having dinner, Darcie had finished devouring her steak so decided to reach over to Luke's plate and pick up his T-Bone and have a chew! I had to grab the camera - she was like a dog with a bone!! lol And of course I had to scrap the photos!

The layout is based on the October 1st sketch at Stuck?! Sketches - designed by the super talented Felicity Wilson:

Here's a close up pick of my journalling:

And the title:

And I've made another fabric flower with some scraps:

Summer Love

I'm back again. This time to share my layout for this months challenge at Scrap The Girls. The challenge was to use the word 'love' in the title and distressing. When I was looking for a photo I came across this one of me when I was 5. I think it might have been my first day of pre-school. I love my little summer dress.

I just love red, teal, black and white at the moment - and misting, of course! I pulled out some of my fabric scraps to make this flower.

I love these Websters alphas at the moment too! I've added a fabric button and some twine.

Cheesy Grin

I've had this photo of Michala for a while now. I'm not sure if I may have scrapped it already. I just love the cheesy smile I get when I ask her for a photo. This layout is my take on this months challenge at White With 1 which was white with black and paint/misting. I couldn't resist pulling out my Mister Hueys.

I have sprayed some hessian with black mist also to match the layout and used some Tim Holtz masking tape.

I've used my dymo labeller and some Jillibean Soup alpha stickers for the title.
